During these residencies organised by De Nieuwkomers there were a few constants: One creator would join the household for a day of artistic research. They would arrive in the evening and stay the night. Because, the next day would start at 5 am and finish at 9 pm as satirical nod to the 9 to 5 reality of capitalism. During this time phones were off and clocks were hidden. Spending this time listening to our body’s needs rather than living in clock-time. That meant eating when hungry, napping when sleepy, alone time when needed. Other than a few planned exercises or experiments, the day would unfold by responding to each other. When possible, a specialist to the chosen topic would participate in part of the day. These included a young cousin as play-expert, Musician Yuna Lee who guided a plant-sounding session and a secret wildcamper as a guide through a dark forrest at dusk and more.
8 of such residencies took place between 2020 and 2023 with over 13 collaborators including artist, specialist and graphic designers
